Our journey
to Japan begins in Qatar! We’re writing this post straight from the airport of
Doha, and after more than flying time six hours. Indeed, and it couldn’t be
said in a better way, time has flew away!
We’ve left our
house in Spain this morning at 7am, with the bikes nicely packed and our saddlebags
converted into backpack (see Ainhoa’s picture). A last minute invention:
instead of using our high visibility vests as the jacket to travel, yesterday
we bought some shoulder straps to get more easily visible in the tunnels. Then,
we thought we could use them to get the saddlebags on our backs, so that we
could travel more comfortably in airports and have our hands free of the
luggage. I think we need to add it to the list of our tricks for cyclo-tourists!
The fly has
been great. Now we definitely know why Qatar Airline won the prize for the best
airline this year and the previous one. The seats are comfortably, wide, with cushions
and blankets. We liked also the food on board. We chose the Hindu vegetarian
menu (all menus follow Islamic rules) and enjoyed it very much. Beside the
lunch, we got a Panini mid-way through the afternoon, which was very good too. All
the beverages, such as coffee, tea, and cold drinks, were free of charge and we
could get them as often as we wished. Finally, the Staff has been very king and
professional all the way through the fly. Let’s just hope we keep going on for
the remaining 11 hours, and having such positive feedback about Qatar Airlines,
up to the end of the journey and down to Osaka, our final destination in Japan.
Having said
that, we have to admit that among the facilities and services we most enjoyed
flying with Qatar Airlines there is their entertainment offer. In front of our
own seat there was a screen touch offering us a good selection of things to
choose from, movies, music, other TV programmes and videogames. The best was to
play Tetris in the multi-players mode!
Now we just
need to wait few hours for the fly to Osaka at 1.30pm Qatar time, which is one
hour more than in Spain). Talking about this, in Japan the time difference with
Spain is of +7 hours. In other words, it sounds like our posts from there will
get published in the blog around 1pm Spanish time, which for us will be right
before we go to bed. We will try to include in our posts an account of our day
as complete as possible, the cycling day, the adventures, and the great people
that, no doubt, we’ll meet along the way.
